What is Royal Arch Masonry?

Royal Arch, or Capitular Masonry, is part of the York Rite of Freemasonry. Within the York Rite, it is the first group that a Mason joins in addition to his Lodge, and opens the gateway to all the other opportunities that York Rite has to offer.

The Chapter confers four additional degrees. They are Mark Master Mason, Past Master (Virtual), Most Excellent Master, and the Royal Arch Degree. With the exception of Most Excellent Master, these are some of the oldest degrees in all of Freemasonry, with the Mark Master degree possibly predating the Master Mason Degree in its formation.
